Peter is a Principal Consultant at CEP based in Glasgow at the University of Strathclyde where he holds an Honorary Lectureship in environmental planning. He is also Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute (AssocRTPI) by virtue of his environmental assessment and public participation skills and practice. Peter leads CEP’s work in Scotland including business and strategy development, collaborations and technical project delivery. 

Peter is an experienced strategic environmental planner, researcher, lecturer and trainer with particular interest and expertise in: tools and processes for sustainable land use policy development; developing empirical evidence of the impact of land use policies, especially in combination at the landscape scale; science and policy for natural capital and ecosystem services; strategic environmental assessment (SEA) research, policy and practice; and participatory and deliberative decision-making processes. Recent research and project activity has focussed on participatory planning and valuation of natural capital and ecosystem services.

Peter holds an MSc in environmental studies and a PhD in sustainable land use and ecosystems, both from the University of Strathclyde. He also holds a certificate of higher education in forestry (CertHE National School of Forestry). Peter combines a rigorous academic approach with an understanding of ‘real-world’ sustainability issues to deliver practical, insightful advice and research outputs for a variety of clients.

Peter is frequently an invited speaker at conferences, workshops and other meetings. He has authored many technical research, assessment and evaluation reports, has published peer-reviewed journal articles and has been an invited reviewer of manuscripts for the journal Ecosystem Services.
