Flood Resilient Communities Conference

CEP IS CO-ORGANISING THE FLOOD RESILIENT COMMUNITIES CONFERENCE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CIWEM, DEFRA AND THE NFF.

The  Flood Resilient Communities: Evaluating the Defra Flood Resilience Community Pathfinder one-day conference will take place on Wednesday 2 December 2015. This is a CPD approved partnership event  on the key lessons learned from the Flood Resilience Community Pathfinder projects on working with communities to improve flood resilience. 

CEP’s Paula Orr and Clare Twigger-Ross and Robbie Craig (Defra) will be presenting the key results of CEP’s recent work on Evaluating the Defra Flood Resilience Community Pathfinder.

Scottish Green Infrastructure Forum conference

CEP presenting at inaugural Scottish Green Infrastructure Forum conference

CEP’s Dr Peter Phillips is presenting at the inaugural Scottish Green Infrastructure Forum (SGIF) conference – Green infrastructure: A growing need – in Glasgow on 6th October 2015. Peter is talking in the Green Infrastructure and the Planning System session about the role of ecosystem services supporting better planning for urban green infrastructure.

CEP at Scottish Resilient Communities Conference: Resilient people in a Resilient nation

CEP’s Dr Clare Twigger-Ross will be talking about community resilience at the Scottish Resilient Communities Conference on 23 September 2015 in Edinburgh. The presentation is titled “What does the evidence tell us about community resilience, and why does it matter?” and draws on recent work undertaken for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (Evidence review: Locality and community climate change resilience). This one day seminar is aimed at bringing together communities, voluntary sector organisations and public sector emergency responders to explore what’s happening in community resilience across Scotland.

CEP jointly leading workshop on global megatrends

CEP is jointly leading a workshop in Switzerland, with the Swiss FOEN, on the implications of global megatrends for EU member states

CEP’s Owen White will be in Bern, Switzerland on 21-22 September, to lead a workshop bringing members of the European Environment Agency network of environmental foresight experts together to discuss and develop method proposals related to downscaling the implications of global megatrends at the national scale. The workshop will focus on how EU member states can identify and prioritise potential implications of global megatrends, and link these with national environmental information and indicators. The workshop is being hosted and jointly led by the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), who have contracted CEP to help develop this method.

NCI ecosystems approach dialogue

CEP participating in Natural Capital Initiative ecosystems approach dialogue

CEP’s Dr Peter Phillips is a participating specialist in a dialogue organised by the Natural Capital Initiative on Putting the ecosystems approach into practice. Peter’s PhD developed an ecosystems approach based methodology for urban land use planning. He also led CEP’s work evaluating integrated land use policy for the Scottish Government and Forestry Commission Scotland . The dialogue is taking place at the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation on 28th September 2015. 

Honorary appointment at University of Manchester

Bill Sheate appointed an Honorary Professorial Research Fellow at University of Manchester

Dr Bill Sheate – Technical Director at CEP – has been appointed an Honorary Professorial Research Fellow at the University of Manchester, in the School of Environment, Education and Development.  

This continues a long-standing relationship Bill has had, since 2007, as an Honorary Senior Research Fellow with the School’s Planning and Environmental Management theme.  Bill’s research and teaching collaboration with Manchester is focused around environmental impact assessment, strategic environmental assessment, environmental policy and green infrastructure.
